Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC)
In the UK a Radio Operators Certificate of Competence (ROCC) is required by anyone who operates a VHF Aeronautical Radio Station providing an Air Ground Communication Service (AGCS) at an aerodrome.
Our courses
All of our ROCC course are tailored to your individual requirements. The amount and content of the training needed to achieve the required standard is very much dependent upon your previous experience. Training can be undertaken on a one-to-one basis or as a small group based on personal preference.

You'll find our recommended reading list at the bottom of this page which can really help you prepare for the test.

Training and examinations can be undertaken at our Breighton Airfield base or at your location if preferred.
Application
Pre-Requisites
You can apply for a Radio Operator’s Certificate of Competence if you:
-
Are 18 years of age or above.
-
Have completed the appropriate written and practical examinations

No medical certificate is required in order for the holder of an ROCC to operate an aeronautical radio station.
What to expect.........
Our ROCC courses usually run for one day but this can vary depending on the candidate's requirements.

The morning generally consists of an interactive presentation covering both the theoretical knowledge and examples of typical radiotelephony exchanges you are likely to encounter in your future Air Ground Communication Service roll.

After a lunch break, you will then hopefully be ready to sit the written theoretical knowledge paper which consists of around 25 questions.

Then follows the practical element of the test which is based around a simulated scenario at an airfield utilising an Air Ground Communication Service where you will play the roll of an AGCS operator.
